Mr. Nicholas Spath- Director of Instrumental Music
Nick Spath is entering his 3rd year as Director of Instrumental Music at Beveridge Magnet Middle School and his 17th year of teaching. He holds a Master of Music with an emphasis in Wind Band Conducting, as well as a Bachelor Degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to his time at Beveridge, Mr. Spath was the Assistant Director of Bands at Omaha Burke High School from 2008-16, a Graduate Assistant at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2008-06 and the Director of Instrumental Music at Omaha Benson from 2001-2006. In addition to his duties at Beveridge, Mr. Spath is a member of NMEA, NSBA, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and HWAA.
Mr. Spath is an active participant in the brass performance community as a bass trombone player and as a Bb Tuba player with the Nebraska Brass Band (NEBB). Additionally, he is an active adjudicator and clinician in the fields of concert and jazz band, as well as marching activities. Mr. Spath has been recognized as a Who's Who in America's Teachers was one of SBO Magazine's "50 Directors Who Make A Difference" and in 2018 was recognized as one of 15 Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Award winners. At Beveridge, Mr. Spath is responsible for Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra and the Summer Music Program.
Mr. Andrew Braun – Associate Director of Instrumental Music, Travel Elementary Teacher, 6thGrade Band
Mr. Andres Silva- Beveridge Instrumental Music, 7th Grade Band, Dual Language Showcase, Percussion
Andres Silva has been teaching piano for more than 10 years and his students carry his musical lineage that manifests itself as they perform in studio recitals and competitions. Born in Columbia, Mr. Silva started his musical training there at a young age. He has studied with internationally recognized pianist Dr. James Johnson, whose teachers Ozan and Patricia Benkman were students of Rachmaninoff himself. In 2001, Mr. Silva moved to Omaha and received a scholarship to study music at the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he earned a bachelor’s degree in piano performance. Mr. Silva has many duties at Beveridge Magnet that include, Director of the Dual Language Showcase, ACP Music and General Instrumental Music.
Mr. Nestor Herszbaum – Travel Elementary Teacher, 6thGrade Orchestra
Nestor Herszbaum has appeared as a chamber musician, recitalist and concerto soloist throughout Europe as well as North and South America. He is the former Principal Flute with the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra and has also performed with the Omaha Symphony, Lincoln Symphony and Charleston Symphony. Mr. Herzsbaum has taught at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Creighton University and at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music Prepatory Department. Nestor Herszbaum’s book ‘Alternative Fingerings for the Flute’ was published in August 2003. Its second edition was published in August 2008 by Carolyn Nussbaum Flute Company. In 2013, Mr. Herszbaum published Altissimo Flute Fingering Chart & Altissimo Flute Trill Chart in collaboration with Carolyn Nussbaum Flute Company.
